Abel Rodríguez es un sabio del pueblo Nonuya poseedor del conocimiento ancestral de las plantas medicinales y sistemas ecológicos de la cuenca del Amazonas. En los años 90, después de que su familia abandonara la Chorrera, su territorio natal en medio del conflicto armado colombiano, Rodríguez encontró la manera de preserva r su legado dibujando sus saberes. Ahora, gracias al trabajo de artistas contemporáneos, curadores y científicos sus piezas son valoradas por sus cualidades plásticas y entendimiento único que trasmite, no sólo sobre la selva, sino también sobre la condición humana.

A través del registro y la descripción del conocimiento botánico y religioso medioambiental de los Nonuyas, transmitido de generación en generación conservando un linaje muy estricto que se mantiene por medio de dietas y restricciones severas, la obra de Abel Rodríguez es un tesoro ancestral, un regalo de la selva para este mundo globalizado, totalizante y homogenizado.

Abel Rodríguez is a sage of the Nonuya people who possesses the ancestral knowledge of the medicinal plants and the ecological systems of the Amazon basin. In the 90s, after his family left La Chorrera, his native territory, because of the Colombian armed conflict, Rodríguez found a way to preserve his legacy by drawing his knowledge. Now, thanks to the work of contemporary artists, curators and scientists his pieces are valued for their plastic qualities and for the unique cosmovision they transmit, not only about the jungle, but also about the human condition.

Through the record and description of the botanical and religious environmental knowledge of the Nonuyas, transmitted from ge neration to generation, through a very strict lineage that is maintained by means of diets and severe restrictions, the work of Abel Rodríguez is an ancestral treasure, a gift of the jungle to this globalized, totalizing and homogenized world.
