La Petite Mort

La Petit Mort entabla un diálogo entre dos artistas caribeñas, María Isabel Rueda (Cartagena, 1972) y Sara Modiano (Barranquilla, 1951-2010). Inspirada en la idea de que en francés, la petite mort (o pequeña muerte) es la forma en que se llama al orgasmo, esta muestra explora cómo el sexo y la muerte son cuestiones constantes de la obra de estas artistas y a la vez, son para ellas caminos de liberación mística y física.

Las obras de esta exposición, que combina fotografía, vídeo, escultura y pintura, realizadas entre 1999 y 2010, se articulan en un relato a dos voces sobre la experiencia de ser mujer en una sociedad marcada por la herencia patriarcal y colonial. Sin embargo, las obras elegidas para La Petite Mort son también portales de emancipación en los que el trabajo artístico puede entenderse como una solución personal a patologías sociales, históricas y culturales.

La Petit Mort proposes a dialogue between two female Caribbean artists, Maria Isabel Rueda (Cartagena, 1972) and Sara Modiano (Barranquilla, 1951-2010). Inspired by the idea that in the French language, the petite mort (or small death) is what the orgasm is commonly called, this show explores how sex and death are constant questions in the work of these artists and how, for them, are paths of mystical and physical liberation.
The works in this exhibition, which combines photography, video, sculpture, and painting, produced from 1999 to 2010, are articulated in a two-voice story about the experience of being a woman in a society marked by patriarchal and colonial heritage. However, the works chosen for La Petite Mort are also portals of emancipation in which the artistic work can be understood as a personal solution to social and cultural pathologies.
