Frieze NY 2026
This curated presentation by Instituto de Visión brings together a selection of leading Latin American artists, including Gloria Sebastian Fierro, Nohemí Pérez, Carolina Caycedo, Ana María Hernando, Pia Camil, Aycoobo, and Otto Berchem.
Rooted in the gallery’s commitment to amplifying critical voices from the region, the presentation reflects Instituto de Visión’s ongoing engagement with practices that interrogate history, territory, and the construction of knowledge. Conceived as a curated stand, it responds to the urgency of engaging with a complex and shifting reality by bridging ancestral understandings of the natural world with contemporary intellectual frameworks.
The works explore the intersections between nature, traditional knowledge, and contemporary existence, reflecting on territory, inherited practices, and present-day modes of living. Across diverse approaches, nature emerges not as a passive backdrop but as an active agent of knowledge, memory, and transformation. In this context, the artists articulate a dialogue between traditional forms of understanding—rooted in cosmologies and embodied relationships to the land—and the critical frameworks through which contemporaneity seeks to interpret and reconfigure these forces.
Within this framework, the presentation also considers language as a system of codes that structures perception and meaning. Several works engage the possibility of exceeding these linguistic frameworks through visual form, gesture, and abstraction. In doing so, they foreground the capacity of art and poetry to operate beyond fixed systems of communication, activating more intuitive and affective modes of understanding. The exhibition ultimately embraces the transformative—and at times mystical—potential of artistic practice as a means of reimagining and reshaping reality.
