Galaxias

Saturday 26 February, 2022 — Wednesday 13 April, 2022
Iván Krassoievitch
curatorship: Beatriz López

From its conception to its assembly, GALAXIAS is an exhibition conceived by Mexican artist Iván Krassoievitch as a series of reflections on language, characteristics, importance, complexity, musicality, materiality and plasticity, always taking into account that, like galaxies, each of the elements will float in a defined space without remaining still: a dance-reading/dance-writing of different processes materialized around language.

This exhibition is based on the neo-baroque poem Galáxias by Haroldo de Campos a Brazilian poet, writer, translator, critic, theorist and cultural agent, founder of the Concretist literary movement. Through this exhibition, the artist explores the formal and conceptual characteristics of the poem Galáxias: constant alliterations; absence of punctuation; alloy of languages; creation of neologisms. The artist examines the way in which the rich but strange poetic images are manifested in the work. In this piece, each of the fifty pages/songs/verses functions independently from the others. It is worth mentioning that, at the beginning, the work was conceived so that each page would be loose, mobile, interchangeable; to potentiate the multiple random possibilities of its reading.

In an unintentionally neo-baroque universe, such as today’s: variegated, in constant and accelerated transformation, a world overly (mis)informed, it is relevant to harness this work to inform the interpretation of the world we inhabit; from the particular to the general.“I am interested in (and identify professionally with) the Haroldian concept of transcreation, a dynamic conjugation of creation and translation.” IKThe term transcreation – based on the idea that poetry is untranslatable, especially poetry with a high degree of complexity – proposes that translation should be a creative act. The migration of a poetic work from one language to another results in something different; a poem refurbished to the characteristics of each language and culture.

In this way, the translator becomes creatively involved in the work. In this sense, the artist’s work is that of a transcreator: operating from translation, departing from poetic works and other literary genres, to execute a series of rules that transport such texts into a visual language of his own.The exhibition is conceived as a series of reflections on language and its characteristics, its importance, its complexity, its musicality, its materiality, and its plasticity. These reflections always consider that, like galaxies, each of the elements will float in a defined space without remaining still: a dance-reading/dance-writing of different processes materialized around language. This exhibition is also thought in the manner of a blank book; that will be occupied mentally and physically until it achieves a sort of open and complex editorial project in the form of an exhibition, which proposes to expose diverse readings and reflections around a materialized poetic space.
