Sandra Monterroso
In the work of Sandra Monterroso, the performative actions she works with the body, objects, sculptures and multimedia installations, show the sacred and the profane merging into the myth of the eternal return. That as a paradox of modernity it clashes with coloniality. The artist takes as a reference the language and the symbolic, spiritual, social and political aspects of the Mayan culture q’eq’chi’ inheritance of her maternal grandmother, working as motivation in her reflections, lines of research in artistic practice, trying to make a re-signification of what it is to define herself as a mestizo-indigenous woman and its consequences.
