Gloria Sebastián Fierro holds a BFA from Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá (2010) and an MFA from Hunter College, New York (2015). Their work employs painting as a way to open cracks that enable the coexistence of different materialities and investigate the nature of absence and the distance between body and phenomena. Their most recent explorations investigate the different temporalities of organic materials such as chapopote or asphalt alongside natural pigments.
With his work Fierro seeks to heal our relationship with the materials that have allowed the construction of structures and social systems and from an exploration of personal mythologies, seeking to weave with these a common reality that concerns the human species. To this end, Fierro considers it important to distance oneself from indexical knowledge by introducing the knowledge of plants and animals, investigating with these worlds the possibilities of coexistence of our species with other manifestations of life.
