Glenda León

Glenda León es una artista cubana nacida en La Habana, en 1976. Su obra ha recibido premios como The Pollock-Krasner Foundation Award y residencias como las del Couvent des Recollets, en París y la Fonderie Darling, en Montreal. Asimismo es parte de colecciones públicas como las del Centro de Arte George Pompidou, el Museo de Bellas Artes de Montreal, el Museo Hammer, el Museo de Arte Contempóraneo de Montreal, el Museo de Bellas Artes de Houston, la Art Gallery de Ontario, Toronto y el Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center’s Museum. León comenzó sus estudios de Artes Plásticas desde los 12 años  y comenzó a exponer de modo profesional en el año 1999. Antes estudió Ballet Clásico y cursó estudios de Filología en la Universidad de La Habana, graduándose finalmente de Historia del Arte. En el 2007 termina el Master en Arte de los Nuevos Medios, en la Academia de Nuevos Medios de Colonia, Alemania.

Fue parte del Pabellón Cubano en la 55 Bienal de Venecia con la obra Música de las Esferas (2013). También ha sido invitada a la Bienal de La Habana, la Bienal de SITE Santa Fe, en el Museo SITE Santa Fe, EU; la II Bienal de Jafre, en Girona, España; la Bienal de Arte Paiz, Guatemala y a la Bienal de Dakar, Senegal.

Otras exposiciones colectivas en las que ha participado tuvieron lugar en lugares como el Brooklyn Museum, Nueva York; CCA Wattis Institute, San Francisco; Bronx Museum; Centre d’Art Contemporain Villa du Parc, Annemasse, Francia; Badischen Kunstverein, Karlsruhe, Alemania; City Art Museum Ljubljana, Eslovenia; The Mattress Factory, Pittsburg; Museo del Rhode Island School of Design, Rhode Island; Nuit Blanche, Toronto, Canadá; Museo MART, Rovereto, Italia; CIFO, Miami; Centre for Contemporary Art Laznia, Gdansk, Polonia; Musée des Beaux‐Arts de Montréal, Canadá; Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco y De Appel, Amsterdam, Holanda.

Ha presentado su trabajo de manera individual en el CDAV, La Habana, Cuba; Le Plateau Espace Expérimental, Paris, Francia; Chateau des Adhemar, Montéllimar, Francia; Matadero Madrid y Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria entre otros espacios.

Su obra ha sido publicada en diversas revistas, catálogos y periódicos como Bomb Magazine, Art Nexus, Art Forum, Flash Art y Artecubano

Glenda León is a Cuban artist born in Havana, in 1976. She has received prizes such as The Pollock-Krasner Foundation Award and residencies like Couvent des Recollets, in Paris and Fonderie Darling, in Montreal. Her works belongs to the permanent collections of Georges Pompidou Centre, Museum of Fine Arts of Houston, Hammer Museum, Cuban National Museum of Fine Arts, PAMM, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art, the Art Gallery of Ontario, and the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center's Museum. León started her Visual Art studies since 12 years old and since 1999 started to participate in group exhibitions . She has also studied Classical Ballet and Philology at the University of Havana, where she got a BA in Art History. León graduated from the Academy of New Media, Cologne, Germany in 2007.
She was part of the Cuban Pavilion in the 55th Venice Biennial with the sound installation Music of the Spheres (2013). She has also been invited to the Havana Biennial, Cuba; the SITE Santa Fe Biennial, US; the Jafre’s Biennial, Spain; the Bienal de Arte Paiz, Guatemala and the Dakar Biennale, Senegal.
