ARTBO 2022
For the original cultures, art had a healing as well as an aesthetic attribute. That is to say that in their world views, the beauty, and health equation was manifested simultaneously in pieces that contained the same utilitarian and decorative value. Works of art then fulfill a healing function, not only of bodies, but also of the relationships between subjects or between people and their natural or artificial environments. Understanding illness as the absence of harmony or imbalance. For modern thought, architecture, and design should have the power to transform both societies and people’s behavior. Modern man should be universal, cosmopolitan, and free from the aesthetic distractions inherited by particular cultures. This project, presented for ArtBo 2022, brings together pieces by contemporary Latin American artists, whose practices seek to reconcile the ancestral thought of art as healing, and the imposed and homogenized modern tradition.
