El Alma y la Memoria
Thanks to centuries of courageous resistance, the original peoples of the Americas have managed to keep alive the traditions and arts that constitute the soul of their communities. Dances, textiles, ceramics, myths and stories are all mechanisms that activate the collective and particular memory of those who still preserve the language and science of their ancestors. This exhibition entitled The Soul and Memory is based on the idea that the soul that animates all things is part of a single entity that shamans call The Great Spirit. This is the order that allows the universe to manifest itself in beings and can only be understood through art and ritual. Memory, which is constantly created in time and uses, is the nourishment of the Great Spirit, the supreme entity that kindly gives the cycles of life and death in nature. The soul and memory is an attempt to highlight the work of different artists who work from their communities and whose practice allows to approach the dimensions that have been overshadowed by centuries of colonial history.
