Sandra Llano, nació en Colombia en 1951. Su trabajo experimental no encaja en ninguna de las categorías construidas en Colombia entre los años sesenta y setenta, en los que el arte pop y el conceptualismo social eran las tendencias. En lugar de elegir estudiar Bellas Artes en el Instituto de Bellas Artes de Cali, decidió huir a la Ciudad de México, donde se graduó en artes visuales y desarrolló su más importante cuerpo de trabajo.

Después de hacer su maestría en diseño de arte y comunicación, tomando clases de filosofía en México, comenzó a trabajar en medio de variedad de disciplinas: arte, ciencia y tecnología, como artista y como profesora de tiempo completo.

A través del performance, el arte del cuerpo y happenings que ella dirige, se ha mostrado un gran interés en que el cuerpo y los sentidos como su objeto principal; de manera transversal todas sus obras reflexionan sobre el tiempo y su comprensión, ya sea desde puntos de vista metafísicos, filosóficos, matemáticos o tecnológicos.

Más adelante, en su carrera se trasladó a Nueva York, donde vive y trabaja actualmente. Tuvo que comenzar una nueva vida y es dentro de este aislamiento que empezó a producir obras más íntimas.

Sus experimentos con tecnologías médicas sitúan sus obras de arte en la colección permanente del Museo de Arte Moderno-MOMA, como uno de los pioneros del vídeo arte en el mundo.

Se define como un artista experimental, y una «creadora».

Sandra Llano, was born in Colombia in 1951. Her experimental work doesn’t fit into any of the categories built in Colombia between the sixties and the seventies, where Pop art and socially charged conceptualism were the tendencies. Instead of choosing to study Fine Arts at the Instituto de Bellas Artes de Cali, she decided to flee to Mexico City, where she graduated in Visual arts and developed her most important and ground breaking body of work.

After doing her Masters degree in art design and communication, and taking classes in philosophy in Mexico, she started working in between disciplines: Art, science and technology, as an artist and as a full time professor.

Through performance, body art, and happenings that she directed, she has shown an intense interest in making the body and the senses her subject matter; and in a transversal way all of her works are a reflection on time and its understanding, be it from metaphysical, philosophical, mathematical or technological viewpoints.

Later on in her career she moved to New York, where she currently lives and works. There she had to start a new life and it’s within this isolation that made she started to produce more intimate works.

Her experiments with medical technologies put her art work in the Permanent Collection of the Museum of Modern Art-MOMA, as one of the pioneers of Video art in the world.

She defines herself as an experimental artist, and a "creator”.
